TL;DR: CurrentWeather.info collects zero personal data. No tracking scripts, no analytics, no cookies, no logs. Your location is processed locally in your browser and never sent to our servers.
What We Don't Collect
CurrentWeather.info is designed to be privacy-respecting by default. We do not collect, store, or process:
- IP addresses: Not logged, not stored, not analyzed.
- Location data: Your GPS coordinates and search queries are processed locally in your browser. We never see them.
- Personal information: No email addresses, usernames, or account data (we don't have accounts).
- Browsing history: No tracking of which pages you visit or how long you stay.
- Device fingerprints: No canvas fingerprinting, no WebGL fingerprinting, no browser profiling.
- Cookies: We don't set any persistent cookies. Session storage is used only for ephemeral map state (zoom level, layer preferences) and is cleared when you close the tab.
- Analytics: No Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no third-party analytics scripts of any kind.
How Your Location Works
When you use CurrentWeather.info, location processing happens entirely in your browser:
- GPS request: If you click "Use my location," your browser requests GPS coordinates via the HTML5 Geolocation API. We never see these coordinates — your browser sends them directly to third-party APIs.
- Search query: If you type a location (e.g., "Seattle, WA"), the query is sent directly from your browser to BigDataCloud's geocoding API to resolve it to coordinates. We don't log or proxy this request.
- Weather data fetch: Once coordinates are determined, your browser makes direct API calls to NWS, Open-Meteo, and RainViewer. We don't proxy these requests — you're connecting directly to the data providers.
We never see your location. We don't log searches. We don't build a profile on you.
Third-Party Services
CurrentWeather.info relies on external APIs to fetch weather data. Your browser connects directly to these services:
| Service | Purpose | Data Sent | Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Weather Service (NWS) | Weather observations, forecasts, alerts, radar | GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude) | NWS Privacy Policy |
| Open-Meteo | Global weather forecasts, air quality, UV index | GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude) | Open-Meteo Terms |
| RainViewer | Live precipitation radar imagery | GPS coordinates (for tile requests) | RainViewer Privacy |
| BigDataCloud | Reverse geocoding (coordinates → place names) | GPS coordinates (latitude/longitude) | BigDataCloud Privacy |
| ESRI ArcGIS | NOAA NEXRAD radar tile service | Tile coordinates (for map rendering) | ESRI Privacy |
| CartoDB | Base map tiles (streets, terrain) | Tile coordinates (for map rendering) | CARTO Privacy |
Important: These third-party services may have their own logging and privacy policies. We have no control over what they collect. If you're concerned about sharing your coordinates with these APIs, consider using a VPN or Tor.
Local Storage
CurrentWeather.info uses browser sessionStorage to cache weather data and map state. This data:
- Is stored only in your browser (never sent to our servers).
- Is cleared when you close the tab or browser.
- Includes: cached weather responses, map zoom level, layer preferences, and last-fetched timestamps.
We do not use localStorage (persistent storage). All data is ephemeral and session-only.
No Ads, No Trackers
CurrentWeather.info has zero advertising or tracking infrastructure:
- No ad networks (Google Ads, AdSense, etc.).
- No affiliate links or referral codes.
- No social media pixels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn).
- No A/B testing or heatmap tools.
- No GDPR consent banners (because there's nothing to consent to).
We don't track you. We don't profile you. We don't monetize your attention.
Server Logs
CurrentWeather.info is hosted on a static CDN (Netlify/Cloudflare/similar). The CDN provider may log:
- Requests for HTML/CSS/JS files (standard web server logs).
- IP addresses (retained per CDN's policy, typically 24-48 hours).
- Referrer headers and user-agent strings.
We do not have access to these logs. We do not analyze them. They are handled entirely by the CDN provider for infrastructure security and abuse prevention.
If you're concerned about CDN logging, use a VPN or privacy-focused browser (Brave, Firefox with Enhanced Tracking Protection, Tor Browser).
Data Retention
Since we don't collect any user data, there's nothing to retain or delete. All weather data is fetched in real-time from third-party APIs and cached temporarily in your browser's session storage.
When you close the tab, all cached data is cleared automatically.
Children's Privacy
CurrentWeather.info does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or any age). We don't collect data from anyone. There are no age restrictions on using this site.
International Users
CurrentWeather.info is accessible globally. Since we don't collect personal data, GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations don't apply. However, the third-party APIs we connect to may have their own compliance requirements — see the table above for links to their privacy policies.
Changes to This Policy
If we ever change our privacy practices (e.g., adding analytics or changing data handling), we will update this page and note the change in our Changelog.
